I removed the EBC rears and reinstalled the old pads as a sanity check to make sure it's the EBC pads that feel weird and not the caliper/rotor. The old pads felt fine so I removed them and reinstalled the EBC pads but they still feel the same as before.
I think I am just not used to the "bite"...
yeah looks similar anyways. Can you feel the groves at all? Do you think the rocky-ness i’m explaining is normal and if so how long until it should go away?
Like I said, I just don’t want to do irreversible damage and rather err on the side of caution
I had OEM pads on my rear tire and I just installed EBC Sintered Double-H Pads and I am trying to find out of this is normal. I took my bike out for its first ride and I can "feel" it scoring the rear rotor on initial contact. When riding and I apply pressure to the rear brake, it feels a little...
@Brammers what do you think about this coolant for a 650f:
Maxima 82964 Coolanol 50/50 Blend Performance Coolant - 64 oz.
amazon.com/Maxima-82964-Coolanol-Performance-Coolant/dp/B0012TROMU
I am pretty sure it's what my previous owner used, the description states:
It's not completely...
yeah, that's the thing... ThreeBond TB5211C Is only available from European sellers online so I can't get it in the US. I looked up the other recommended one (Shin-Etsu KE-45) and it's only rated up to 356F (56F more than HondaBond4)... but only available in Japan 😕
@Brammers @miweber929 @baugustine Just to follow up on my research, here are the specifications of ThreeBond TB5211C:
gluespec.com/Materials/sealant/threebond/tb5211
Application Type | Sealant
----------------|-------
1 Part or 2 Part | 1 Part
Material Form | Paste
Substrate | Ceramics, Glass...
@Brammers yeah FWIW when I google TB5211C manufactured by ThreeBond I can only find UK/EU sellers (reasonably priced) which would make sense given your location
@miweber929 @baugustine (or anyone else) let me know if you have any insight on the subject (sealant for the cylinder head cover) :)
I looked in the service manual it says:
"Apply sealant (TB5211C manufactured by ThreeBond, KE45 manufactured by Shin-Etsu Silicone or an equivalent) to the cylinder head cover packing semi-circular areas as shown (8 places)."
would Hondabond 4...
got it, thanks, guys. I think the mech should have shims - I've talked to him last month but haven't followed up since but I will definitely verify with him and look for a different mech if he doesn't.
@Brammers for the sealant you mentioned, is honda bond 4 sufficient...
thanks @Brammers! do you (or anyone else) know the part numbers for the shims? or an online link to a shim kit that would work?
the idea is if I hire a mobile mechanic I need the parts beforehand and I can just return them later if I don't use them.
I don't want to have to pay for the mobile...
I have just hit 16k miles and as per the service manual, I should do a valve check and adjustment. I plan on doing my first valve check around 17k once I get back from a moto-camping trip. I live in San Francisco (high cost of living) and my Honda dealership and shop estimated it would cost at...
the wiring is clean. I don't have any good pictures right now but I might be able to get some when I strip it down for a valve check in a few weeks.
basically, the right grip wire connects to the left grip wire, and you have to wire it through the fairings/frame along the left side.
mine is...
I put Koso Apollo Heated Grips on my bike last month and they are working great. I chose them because the heat control is built into the grip itself. They are working great so far, I bought them from Amazon - here's the link:
amazon.com/gp/product/B07R4LW6Q3
If you go with them let me know, I...
Update from me here:
Thanks for all the help everyone! This forum is very welcoming and helpful.
I was able to change my spark plugs and air filter on my own. I didn't tackle the valves as I am only at 15,100 miles and I don't think it's worth checking early. When I get closer to 16,000 miles...
I went with these ones too! I like them so far.
Like you said time will tell. I avoid riding in the dark when possible so it might be a while before I get to put them through a real test, maybe on my next road trip. They seem very bright though and I like the color.
the stanchions clean off with a scotch bright. I am ok with it only being cosmetic because you can't really see it unless you tear down the bike. I am going to scrub as much rust off as I can and ACF50 the whole area so it doesn't get worse or spread.
I couldn't find a "chrome" specific Autosol...
@miweber929 I live in San Francisco. My bike is kept in a dedicated parking spot in a garage under my apartment complex. I don't live in a particularly foggy part of the city or close to the beach. It's foggy sometimes and I drove the coast last year but it's not like salt water would have...
hey, @Brammers, @miweber929, @baugustine I have another question. I noticed a little bit of dust, rust and, grime on my forks when I was taking off my fairings:
I cleaned off the grime and dust but there does look like there is a little bit of rust:
Is this something I should be worried...
Hmm sounds good - my bike seems to start fine both hot and cold. If I can get in there and figure out how to change the spark plugs on my own ill most likely skip the clearance inspection and do it near 32k.
Awesome thanks, I found your thread (https://650f.bike/threads/valve-clearance-check-at-32k-miles.2128) and it does look like a pain.
I am also supposed to do a valve clearance inspection in about 900 miles / 1,400 km (at the 16k miles / 24k km interval). Maybe ill hold off on the early spark...
