Drilled in through the exhaust pipe, through the bend in the pipe, through the box and through the nearest baffle wall. Def sounds better than the stock sewing machine. That'll do for now. Pretty happy for only costing $6AUD for the extra long drill bit at Bunnings.

How big of a drill did you use?

Ok everyone. This is my attempt at posting videos of the different stages of my exhaust mod. Someone please let me know if they work.
First video is stock

Second video is after drilling out the baffle partially through the tail pipe

Third video is after cutting the bread box and removing everything except the cat.

Did you just stick the drill bit up the exhaust pipe and drill or how did you do it for the second clip?

Sorry but can we complete thsi thread?

Ive got both a CB650F and a cb650R and I want to mod the exhaust

I look down the pipe and i see a bend, do you just go through that?

The R has more of a bend then i think a block of baffles

Be good for some better pics?

The tailpipe bend on the 2018 650f won't allow a drill bit to bite. You can however drill a couple 3/8" holes into the box right next to right side of the tailpipe, then cut the metal on the aluminum cover that snugs up around the tip of the tailpipe to allow the gasses to exit easily. This changes the sound quite a bit. It's much louder at idle, but when you get on it while riding it sounds much more aggressive but not obnoxious like many aftermarket systems do. Lots of guys will spend $1500 on a new system along with a fuel controller just to get some needed sound bites while riding. This mod may be a bit redneck, but it does the trick and costs nothing. I've been meaning to do a video on this. Perhaps I'll do that soon.

Thanks

I imagine for noise, a bit like a hole in an exhaust you get from rust, even with the cover in place it'll still be noisy?

The cover tends to amplify the sound a bit. You would think it might sound gross but it actually sounds much like a reduced volume version of an aftermarket system. It's an option for anyone who can't justify the expense of a new system for some exhaust notes. Easily reversed by welding them up or tapping the holes for bolts to close them.

yep done today on the CBF and the CBR - sounds good, the missus cant tell but i can - its a nicer lower tone, the heat shield covers it and liek you say amplifies as theres a decent gap there, defo louder and sounds like a few cc more than it is.

cheers!

Sounds like a great idea. If you could do a guide/video, I for one would be very grateful!

Couldnt drill through the bend in the pipe so I drilled around 7 random 1cm holes around the top of the muffler box in places that can't be seen easily. Sounds so much better. (similar to the 2nd video of dieselTech650f)
There are 3 chambers in the muffler. My holes are mostly in the mid chamber.

Guys can someone tell me the exact process in achieving dieseltechs 2nd video sound..."Second video is after drilling out the baffle partially through the tail pipe" please? do I literally just get a really long drill bit, stick it into the exhaust outlet and drill through one baffle wall? just one?

Just keep the drill bit straight at the angle of the outlet pipe. You’ll eventually drill through the bend. Then keep going, through the internal baffle wall.

@ o-dogs what size drill bit did you use?

Hi mate
I have a better solution for your exhaust, I've fitted on my 2019 CB650R and the sound is sick.
