Straight Bars?

Anyone ever thought about taking the Triple clamp, and handle bars from a CB 650F to a CBR 650F? I have rode MX bikes my whole life. I also have a NC 700x. It feels like a dirt bike when i ride it. I just hae a hard time getting used to the angel of the clip ons on the 650. Just a thought.

It’s been mentioned before, not sure anyone’s completed it. A couple items you may run into for roadblocks are throttle cable, clutch cable and brake hose length issues, not to mention the bars hitting the fairing at full lock. The CB versions of those items will help.

You’ll also have about an inch of fork tube sticking out the top of the clamp unless you lower the fork tubes flush and then you’d have some handing changes, the CBR forks are longer to provide a place for the clip ons to clamp to.

Not impossible, but not a quick bolt on mod.

Ridden dirt bikes my whole life and owned an NC700X as well so I get what you are describing. Give it time, you’ll adjust. The CBR could be a worse position, trust me; this bike is VERY upright as it is.

there is enough height, just was looking at the sweep position of the bars.

So if that’s the issue, you could conceivably cut off the locating tab on the bar and rotate them forward. Race bikes and aftermarket clip ons don’t have a locating tab and just rely on the bolt tightness to keep them from rotating and to keep them consistent side to side so it’s not a needed thing.

However, my statement of hitting the fairing still stands, so before I’d cut them off I’d see how much you can rotate forward before hitting things; my fear is not far.

When I had my NC I played around with bars trying to find something that wouldn’t sweep back as far but couldn’t get something to work that either didn’t send the switchgear into the tank or hit the windscreen at full lock. Loved the bike, it needed to rev higher, though, but the bar thing was a PITA and I ended up back at stock. Too bad, CR HIgh bend Renthols felt great on that bike.

Have you tried rotating clip ons to a position with less sweep?

I got rid of about half the sweep on my bike and now my wrists are basically straight when I am holding the grips.

Just be careful not to spread them too much. You have to check that there is still clearance at the fairing at each steering lock position, full left and full right.

yea i looked at that today. I think there is enough room to move them up to let that tab clear, and still keep it on there.

thanks for the input guys.

was able to remove the circlip and raise them to get the effect that i was looking for. Feels better and no rubbing . make the front wheel feel a bit odd in the corners. May just take some getting used to. Been nasty weather here since thanksgiving. Does make if feel like a "CB" model though.
