Remember to take the airbox with the engine though as that did change along with the ecu. (which means you'll need to take the hiss system and ignition locks & keys too.

Big job!

Front brakes are different, maybe you also have to transfer that and the ABS module too. Also the Wire harnesses is different because of the LED head light and other stuff? I'm NOT sure.

Wire harness needs to stay with the headlight (doesn't matter in which bike)

I thought brakes were the same, but forks are different.

Abs system is likely the same.

I thought brakes were the same, but forks are different.

The 2017+ model has improved brakes if you google reviews.

I took a quick glance at part numbers and pictures. The 2017+ has different pads, total different caliper parts, and bracket. Other parts may have changed too, so be carefully when replacing brake stuff from 2014-2016 VS 2017+

Maybe the brakes is just a upgrade like 2.0 and the parts will also fit the 2014-2016 too?

Also when looking on-line for buying brake pads, they list pads for 2014-2018. Which suggests they shape of the pad is the same and interchange with all models.

Probably changed when they redid the forks then.

Just because the part number changed doesn't mean the part did... The new parts could be backwards compatible.

Frames and other hard parts will all be the same, where you want to watch are the items that have changed between the two generations like exhaust, airbox and I’m guessing CPU, at least tuning wise. You’ll also want to keep as many sensors as you can with the engine you’re pulling; not because I know they are different but because they may be different and are “claibrated” to work in the engine you have.

Also, the headlights are different between the two which means the headlight plug is different which means at some point the wiring harness is different. Where, I don’t know but again, be prepared for things like that.

The forks are different, however that’s pretty much just in operation so you should be able to swap those over without too much hassle if you want to repair your ‘15 with parts from the ‘17 instead. Someone mentioned the brakes being different which to my eyes just look physically different but operationally are identical.

I don’t see this being too big a project or impossible. The good thing is it was just a minor update between the model generations so it should be unbolt, bolt and go. I don’t know if you have HISS in the U.K. but keep that in mind as far as keys, ECU and ignition switches go.

Like everyone else, I’m curious how the ‘17 motor blew. You must be extremely gifted to be able to pull that off, it’s a pretty bulletproof lump of aluminum!!!!!

Think this confirms your suspicions, I didn't even realise they were different until you said. The caliper looks more refined and the fluid hose has moved to the top. Judging by the exposed pad on the skinnier pre-facelift caliper and the position of the pad pin, I'd say the pads are the same. The whole thing is interchangeable based on the forks fixture points but as you said, caliper bracket and speed sensor are different.

Yes it is, 17> has the lip on the inside of the ring, 17< has the lip on the outside. No idea why.

The 2017+ brake caliper looks bigger to me. The 2017+ reviews claim it has better braking than the previous models.
