Wow it looks so clean even without the fairing. Reminds me of those old bikes with bikini fairing.

- It looks much better without the branding. Do you find the Akrapovic system a lot louder than standard? I'm debating buying one myself as I love the look of them over the competition, however I have read mixed reviews on the noise, some say they are too loud, and for me mainly riding back roads through villages, I think this may be an issue. ? .

I like the look of the muffler and how it sits but really dislike the springs which hold the pipes together.
I previously had a locally made exhaust (Musarri) which had a much nicer construction - welded joints and no springs but it was too loud, much louder than the Akra. Basically a straight pipe which constantly crackled and popped.

Like others have said, baffle in, you should be fine. I like the sound without the baffle though. I only ride on back country roads.

Was out on a short ride when this happened
IMG_20210518_140303614.jpg
It was on a roundabout when it just fell off, and that's not very typical, I'd like to make this point. There are a lot of these bikes going around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I don't want people thinking bikes aren't safe. Was this bike safe? Well, I was thinking more of the other ones. The ones where the bar-ends don't fall off.

Anyway, I was on this roundabout when I heard a loud CLUNK and I was like "huh?" so I pulled over immediately. Tried to find if anything fell off my bike (not saying it isn't safe, it's just perhaps not quite as safe as some of the other ones. Those are built so the bar-ends don't fall off at all. Obviously this one wasn't because the bar-ends fell off).

Noticed the missing bar-end, looked behind me on the roundabout and yep, there it was. The bolt was a meter next to it. Thankfully it was a relatively small roundabout with little traffic at that moment so I grabbed both, went home and screwed it back in. Hope it's attached according to very rigorous roadgoing engineering standards now.

Oh also, watch this video if you have no idea what I'm blabbering on about 😅

Today I fitted a smoked MRA Touring windscreen. Much better than the stock Honda one.

Had my seat modified for two up touring. Very happy with the result. My wife's cousin is an upholsterer. I showed him the Corbin seat and asked home to match the design but use my dimensions. Made the pillion seat much larger, added three inches to the front (lost three inches to the rider seat, intentionally). Made it a bit wider, softer, taller, and concave. We are both super happy with it after testing it out for a few hundred kilometers the last couple days. Heading out now for another handful of days. Bums no longer get sore, just casually tired. Also, he used a non slip material. That, with the uplift on her seat, prevents her from sliding toward me braking down steep slopes.

I got back home from a nice day at Pikes Peak International Raceway and while washing the bike, I noticed my lower fairing was scraped pretty bad. I hadn't crashed and no one crashed into me, so it was a surprise. Turns out, my right foot peg feeler has become worn down and bent. There's a 180 degree right hand turn where I think I may have bent the feeler mount on the curbing during a lap, and every pass after that I likely dragged my lower fairing along with the feeler/toe slider.
Lower Fairing Scrape.jpg

You can see the clearance when looking straight down the side of the lower fairing. With the scrape circled, it's pretty easy to visualize the ground line:

I don't know if I'll bother replacing the lower fairing or not. But I will replace the feelers. A lot of guys at the track have told me to remove the peg feelers, but I think this incident highlights the relatively limited clearance available on this bike compared to a race replica, and how the feelers really help keep hard parts from scraping. Looking at the clearance available, I can only imagine how bad the fairings would look, not to mention the grinding on my kickstand and muffler, if I did remove the feelers. So I'll buy a couple and treat them as a maintenance item to replace each season.

As long as you use the feelers as a point to tip back up you should be fine leaving them. But if they keep grinding they’ll eventually fall off and can cause issues with tire punctures or create a bad situation for other riders behind you (ask me how I know) which is they suggest you remove them.

That makes way more sense than all the guys who have told me to remove them because the feelers are limiting my lean angles. And when looking at the bent one and the resulting scrapes along on my lower fairing, I just don't buy into the idea that removing them provides any meaningful gain. I think Honda made them just long enough to do their job and didn't leave any significant extra lean angle on the table with their design, which is what I was trying to show in the pics.

The only way they’d limit your lean angle is if your pegs were solid. Since they fold up, they really don’t.

Just be thankful you don’t have a Ducati where the exhaust drags before the pegs will……..
