Good numbers, yes?

I have a friend that flashes ECU's for the Connie's and the Versys'. I've been to his shop numerous times (he Dyno'd my Versys when I had it) and he explained to my dumb-ass what to look for when using the Dyno. One thing he told me is that most take the numbers at full throttle. Doing so has it's reasons BUT...if you're going to flash your ECU you have to look at 1/4 and 1/2 throttle numbers as well.
Although my brain doesn't connect like his I know his flashes for the Versys were game changers! People who bought the Power Commander's would eventually go to his flashes as Power Commander doesn't go through all of the numbers.
Not knocking Power Commanders but, from what my friend explained, they tend to miss some of the finer tunings.

Good numbers, yes?

Is what it is, I guess.

In my opinion 80.x rwhp is not awful but it’s about what they were getting from the original F so the claims of additional hp in the 17-18 refresh and additional yet in the ‘19 seem largely exaggerated. That’s top end hp, midrange is what we “use” and mostly care about but it seems pretty low still.

Interesting this info comes from a guy who flashes ECUs. Not saying he biased but, well, you connect the dots.......

A full PCV can change just as many parameters as a flash can, that’s BS to say he can do more, and you can seriously fuck an ECU up if you don’t know what you are doing with a flash. Also, a PCV is invisible to an ECU so if you have a warranty it’s easily removable and no one is the wiser where a flash isn’t and ECUs keep track of how many flashes it sees. That means it’s traceable. And have you ever heard of a PCV bricking an ECU? I’ve read about several flashes doing that, however. As time goes on they’ll be locked down even more (2018 and newer cars are almost impossible to flash anymore) do the “art” will be dying off soon enough.

I won’t even go into dyno discrepancies, air/fuel ratios, TPS, o2 sensors, PAIR valves, etc.......

A good dyno tuner will talk to you about what you want and tune your bike on their dyno for that particular machines running parameters, not just peak horsepower. Using a canned flash is as inaccurate as using a Dynojet downloadable map, you’ll get close but there’s more to be had if you look at the individual bike on a dyno n

Whether you use a flash or fuel controller is up to the individual to decide. Both have their pluses, both have their minuses. It’s not a straight answer as to which is better.

Yeah, I didn't mean to demean PCV. Even my friend says they're a good product. Again, if he was talking to you and showing you what he does he, obviously, can explain much better than I can!
He's sold over 800 flashes just for the Connie's. He's a good guy and, as far as I'm concerned, knows his stuff! That said, I think the way my 2018 CB rides is just perfect for what I want. And it feels exactly how it felt when I rode my stock Versys, then switched to his flash! Granted, two different kind of motorcycles but you get the picture.

Anyway, the video was good and for my riding style and ability I like those numbers!

miweber929, Should I be really worried about having akra on and skipping the power commander? any harms? the thoughts have stopped me to enjoy my ride. always thinking I am running too lean and its bad for my overall bike health. Cheers

On this bike, with its closed loop FI system, you are just fine, the bike will run great and live a long, happy life.

If you want ALL the performance you can get, and have the money, a PCV with a good Dyno tune is a good thing to have. But it's not needed.

I also noticed more heat is coming out of the engine. I think it should be normal when you change the stock exhaust, right?

Potentially but I think more than anything you’re simply more aware of things and are looking for something that may be different.

The stock unit has a lot of heat shielding, covers, etc. that the new one doesn’t. There may be a bit of difference but it should be fairly minimal.

I found the 650 does run warm. Mostly because it's running quite lean to meet emissions regulations.

I've got two maps on my pc5... One is full power (which runs rich compared to stock) and the engine is much cooler.

My economy map is leaner and warmer as a result.

Canada/Ontario does not have any emission regulations for motorcycles whatsoever. They even took it out for newer cars! Don't you think Honda may have tuned it differently for North America Market? (I personally doubt it)

Cheers

I finally went to the Honda showroom to view the CBR650R. Managed to sit and walk around it only. As a F owner, here here are my thoughts:
- Feels lighter compared to F when picking it up from kickstand leaning (nice.. )
- Feels smaller compared to F especially the tank (slimmer due to less fuel capacity?)
- Ergonomics wise feels not much difference (hmm.. )
- The tank feels more "plastic" compared to the F (hmm.. )
- The dash and screen makes it more modern (huhu.. nice)
- Looks wise is subjective, i think the bike design just does not "flow" (too much "patches" from front to back)
- Overall feels familiar yet different

Looking forward to test ride it someday.. cheers :)

I must say the difference between the CBR650 F and R is quite a few things to mention a few
Sightly more aggressive riding position
Slipper and assist clutch
Slightly more mid range
New dash
New body work appears slimmer to my old F
Different clip ons , pegs
Led all around
Much more aggressive appearance
I have 600 miles on my bike and I am loving it it is the goldilocks of motorcycles for me and I have had quite a few
Couldnt be more pleased
Only downsides to note so far
Rear brake sucks it is mush having that looked at tomorrow
Stock tires need to go but I get that it was a budget item
Other than that perfect bike for me
I wish they had come out with this last year as I have a 2018 ninja 650 KRT sitting in my garage that I feel will collect dust lol
Why the hell dont they put these features on the 600rr is that bike destined to be discontinued ?
I looked at a 2019 600rr today and it is bare ass for features compared to the 636 and gsxr600
I dont get it - this 650r was a long time coming thankfully it is here and for me it delivers
Handling and power are awesome !

It seems to me the European and Asian reviews are far more positive for the CBR650R than the American reviews. The enthusiastic European reviews are one of the reasons I became interested in the bike, but the lackluster reviews from Cycle World or Motorcycle.com are interesting. For example, MCN really praised how livable it was for a sportsbike, even taking it to Portugal and back, and then to a track day. That seemed like the kind of bike I wanted. But when MO and CW reviewed it, they didn't seem impressed, and mentioned the better performance of the ZX6R for almost the same cash, or the more comfortable and more powerful sport naked options. I wonder if there is more appreciation for a good 'do it all' bike in Europe, whereas maybe in the US, people are used to having multiple bikes and therefore prefer something more focused for their type of riding.
