Hello there,

well, my new bike came delivered to my house yesterday and everything was great. Until I noticed the dust on it and tried to carefully wipe it away during the ride and welp..I scratched it.

Sooo, out of curiosity I was looking for some parts for the CBR650R on ebay and funnily enough a screen protector for the said lcd display is on ebay. I guess it's too late for me now.

Do you think that the display itself can be replaced though? Any idea how? Would it be worth it to you at all?

Cheers

That's unlucky buddy, why the hell don't they come with protectors given the screens are so soft, my phone has gorilla glass and still came with a protector. ….

Because that's dishonesty.

In the USA, we call that a "write off"!!!

I knew it when i got my cb650r that the display would get scratched just by looking at it. Few days later, with a single soft wipe with a very soft cloth, yep tiny scratches all over. I can tell you that the dash on the z900rs is just as fragile.

I now haw a pair of screen protectors for it, the clear type from ebay... Planning to source out a shop that can fix the scratches, not even sure it is possible..hopefully it is. and then i will put the protective film on after that.
Really a terrible job from honda and kawasaki to deliver such fragile plastic, sub par quality.

I imagine the scratches can be fixed the same way it is possible to fix car headlight glass. The use some kind of polishing to fix that.

The dash they're putting on bikes now look like crap. What is that, an iPhone? If I find one with a touch screen, I'm going to get really angry. :punch:

They already have the touch screens...on the Goldwings, Harley's and a few others! And the techies are eating them up. I hate all that crap but, lately, I seem to be in the minority.
Then again, I tend to be old-school...I don't ride with a GPS, radio or cell phone ear piece (unless I'm touring the states). I don't have a cell phone mount on my bars as I ride to get away from that stuff.
Unfortunately, the tech stuff is not going away, just getting more redefined.

When polishing plastic to an optical standard the trick is not to allow any heat build up as that will make things worse, even when not using power tools. When polishing lenses and aircraft transparencies we used lots of water with the cutting medium to keep things cool. This will be very messy if done on the bike. If the quality or material of the lens is in doubt be very careful. Do not concentrate on just the scratch area because when the scratch disappears it will be replaced by an even more annoying optical distortion.

I get your point here but really, the old 650F dash is literally the worst dash in the history of motorcycles. The updated one, while not perfect, is a huge improvement. I would've liked an analogue tachometer + an actual TFT display as my ideal combo.

I disagree that it's an improvement, but an analog tach would be nice...... with the F models lcd for other info. :)

Really? Because I think it's quite alright. A bit dull, maybe, nothing too flashy, but it's function, clearly readable (even in bright sunlight) and while it lacks a gear indicator, it does have a fuel gauge. I don't think the 650F is that bad.

Hey All

New the site and my first recommendation is the R&G racing 'second skin' screen protector. Bought yesterday and yet to fit.

For £20 it's a perfect fit for the display and should provide some protection.

I'll let you know how it is when it arrives..

I just had the same issue, small scratches from wiping it with my glove. I used a very small amount of toothpaste with a drop of water and gently polished the scratches with a lint free cloth, worked a treat, scratches came out. I then bought an anti-glare screen protector and immediately applied it, job done, problem solved.

I bought one of these screen protectors - Speedo Angels
